Kerridge purchased a bicycle shop in Alton, (UK), then expanding to selling and servicing motor cycles. A family business, F. W. Kerridge and Sons Limited, progressed to a car dealership in the 1950s and 1960s. In the early 1970s, as a successful regional automotive and parts distributor, the company’s management team made the decision to develop its own computer system to help manage the business – the first Kerridge system - which was based on a Wang 2200. In 1976, recognising the growing need for business computing from similar companies, Kerridge Computer Company Limited was established as an independent systems company, serving distribution and retail automotive sectors in the UK. International expansion first to Ireland and South Africa, was later followed by developing opportunities in the Middle East and Europe.
